In order to fully actualize our promise as a vital community asset, we at the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago must commit ourselves, fully and intentionally, to the work of becoming an antiracist, multicultural organization.

That’s why, for the second year in a row, we’re inviting staff and community members to join us for the 21 Days of Equity Challenge, an educational series focused on deepening our understanding of key equity issues affecting our communities.

Designed on the premise that it takes 21 days to form a habit, the 21 Days of Equity Challenge will guide participants through daily activities—including readings, multimedia activities, and solidarity actions—that encourage cross-cultural literacy and reflection.

Taking place from April 30 through May 20, this year’s 21 Days of Equity Challenge will focus specifically on the themes of health equity, economic development, and community safety.

By participating in the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago’s 21 Days of Equity Challenge, I pledge to do one action everyday to further my understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion using the tools and supportive space provided. I will acknowledge others’ points of view and respect that everyone’s journey is at a different place. I pledge to do my part to address bias within myself and others by vowing to change my future actions. I will take the knowledge that I have learned from this challenge and apply it to my everyday thinking until my habits begin to change.
